Erin Bird, an emerging artist known for her energetic abstract artwork resembling flowing silk, is thrilled to announce her debut solo show, "Wrapped in Light." The exhibition will take place at 67 Great Titchfield Street, Fitzrovia, London, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience Bird's innovative art firsthand in this captivating journey of creativity.
Bird, a US-born artist currently based in the UK, holds a BA (Hons) from Camberwell College of Arts, London, and an MA from the Royal College of Art. Her artistic talent has been recognized through prestigious shortlistings for the Lumen Prize for Art and Technology in 2020 and the Gilchrist-Fisher Award in 2008. Notably, Bird's work is featured in distinguished corporate collections, including Related Companies (NYC), VyStar Credit Union (FL), and Wiley Rein Law Firm (DC), as well as private collections worldwide.
Bird has developed a distinctive experimental technique known as 'Waterprinting,' which produces ethereal and liquid-like atmospheric imagery, capturing the essence of her artistic message: renewal. "My compositions are spontaneously created by submerging in water. If I try to recreate the unique way the inks respond to the liquid, the work loses its authenticity," said Bird. "Water defies containment and thrives on finding new pathways." Bird's artworks invite viewers to explore an interior realm that transcends traditional ways of thinking, fostering a renewed mindset.
Characterised by immersive abstract shapes, bold colours, and fluid lines reminiscent of flowing silk, Bird's art is dreamy, rhythmic, bold, and simultaneously fragile. Drawing inspiration from her own experiences growing up in Upstate NY as a first-generation American to Irish immigrant parents, Bird delves into themes of identity, memory, and our connection to the land. By combining traditional techniques with digital methods, she produces contemporary artworks that are visually stunning and thought-provoking.
Melanie Lenz, Digital Curator, V&A Museum, London, and member of the Lumen Prize's Jury Panel, described Bird's work as having "a distinctive ability to encompass fragility and boldness simultaneously.”
Unlike artists represented by a gallery, Bird is independently staging "Wrapped in Light" through the sale of her artwork, with support from influential figures in the art world. "People in the industry have been very kind and generous, sharing their expertise. Even the venue was suggested by a collector," said Bird. "I want the atmosphere of this show to feel very bright, welcoming, and inclusive."
Visitors to the "Wrapped in Light" exhibition will have the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful abstract aesthetic layered with depth and complexity. Bird's art captures emotion through color and rhythm, bringing a unique character to any space.
Erin Bird's "Wrapped in Light" exhibition will be exclusively shown for a limited period from 15 to 20 June at 67 Great Titchfield Street, Fitzrovia, London, showcasing a unique collection never before exhibited together.
