Erin Bird creates large artworks by a distinct process she originated called waterprinting; making abstract paintings from her collection of digital photographs. Using the language of abstraction she spontaneously forms poetic compositions - fleeting moments of time are impulsively transformed by submerging in water. The surface of the canvas is worked on with highly pigmented ink but readily diluted, creating startling arrays of layers of vibrant color - ranging from matte and velvety to transparent and translucent. Erin Bird’s compositions are immediately recognizable - like silk blowing in the wind - a form which conveys a sense of movement and freedom.
